SEMINAR ON KAIZEN
“TOWARDS BETTERMENT: 5S & KAIZEN”

University Technology Malaysia (UTM), Jalan Semarak on 22nd August 2007

By: Angela
It has been 50 years since Malaysia and Japan commenced diplomatic relations. While Malaysia celebrates its 50th golden year of independence, the Persatuan Alumni AOTS Malaysia (PAAM) was busy with our very own event i.e. the “5S and Kaizen Seminar” which was held on 22nd August 2007 in collaboration with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) City Campus, Kuala Lumpur at its Business & Advanced Technology Centre (BATC).This half day seminar is the 6th in the series and is always held to coincide with the Japan Festival in Malaysia.

A total of seventy seven (77) participants attended this seminar. Considering that it was held during their mid-term break, the response was most tremendous. Most of the audience were made up of working professionals and/or post-graduate students. Professor Dr. Awaluddin Bin Mohamed Shaharoun (Deputy Executive Director, BATC/UTM) delivered an inspiring welcome speech, followed by Mr. Yang Chor Leong, our representative and Dr. Kaori Shinozaki who spoke on behalf of the Embassy of Japan.

The enthusiastic speakers for this event, Mr. Lim Eng Swee and Mr. Theodore K.C Wong, our very own PAAM members, took the floor with their respective seminar papers and provided plenty of examples and case studies. These illustrations were real-life situations which occurred in their organizations or observed through years of experience in the manufacturing industry and working environment. Both speakers also shared the key factors for successful implementation of Kaizen and its elements. At the end of the seminar session, the participants were given the opportunity to enhance the seminar with Questions & Answers session.

On behalf of PAAM, we wish to express our appreciation to the speakers, BATC/UTM and the Embassy of Japan for the continuous support extended to PAAM in making this event a great success.
