The
Afro-Asian Entrepreneurs Program was conducted from 6th - 16th September
2004 in Kuala Lumpur. The participants came from Ghana (3 ladies and 3 gentlemen),
Sudan (2) and Cameroon (1).
We are proud and happy that five of the seven lecturers/speakers for the
training program are our PAAM members – Tan Teng Ek, Alan Lai, Ms.
Jacqueline Hui, Chang Boon Ping and A Aziz Y Kamaruddin. The lecture topics
included “The Industrialization and Promotion of SMI – The Malaysian
Experience”, “Total Cycle Time”, “Management Mindset”,
“ISO 9000:2000” and Total Quality Management”. The program
included industrial visits so that the participants could see at first hand,
the concepts (that they learned in the classroom) being applied to real
organizations. They saw, for example, how organizations/factories such as
Nippon Paint and Versatile Paper Products implemented the Japanese 5 ‘S’
and Kaizen (Continuous Improvement) concepts and principles. The majority
of the participants came from the newspaper industry, and they found the
visit to the production/printing facilities of “The Star” newspaper
very interesting, educational and memorable.
All the participants indicated that they enjoyed the training program tremendously.
In short, the program was an unqualified success. As the saying goes, “parting
is such sweet sorrow” when the majority of the participants left after
the cocktail party on the evening of 16th September. We wish the participants
“All the best!” in their careers.
