The President's Message

PAAM successfully conducted the Afro-Asian Entrepreneur’s Program from 6th-16th September 2004. Although there were a few minor shortcomings, overall the training program was a success in terms of achieving its objectives. I take this opportunity to thank the members of the Entrepreneur Sub-committee (under the able leadership of Theodore Wong) who spent considerable personal time and energy in ensuring that the program was a success. We also thank all the individuals who helped us in the running of the program, and organizations/factories that opened their doors and shared their management principles and philosophies with the participants.

It is a known fact that training plays an important role in determining the efficiency and effectiveness of an organization. One of the ways that all of us, especially those who are in the industrial/private sector, can help our organization (and therefore our country) is to identify the training needs/requirements of our organizations. In this respect, I therefore look forward to your feedback on what are the training needs in your industry, so that this will help PAAM and AOTS plan and design the correct training programs for Malaysia.

I believe that PAAM can play an important role in the industrial development of the small and medium-scale industries (SMIs) through cooperation with industry and relevant organizations such as the Small and Medium Industry Development Corporation (SMIDEC), Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) and other non-governmental organizations. I believe we should work towards having a formalized structure or forum so that any issues and opportunities can be identified in a more structured and efficient manner.

It would be useful and interesting if any of you could write to us to share your practical ideas on how we can enhance the industrial competitiveness of our SMIs. Please do write in (including on any other matters that is of interest to you) and consider that as your contribution (however small you think it may be) to the nation.

I wish all of you success in all your undertakings, and good health to you and your family. “Happy Deepavali” and “Selamat Hari Raya Aidil Fitri”.
