Tea Talk - Post AFTA
HIPPO Advertisement and Japanese Language Program
18th. Annual General Meeting

Persatuan Alumni AOTS Malaysia (PAAM) organized a tea-talk on 10 May 2003 at our premises. The guest speaker, Y. Bhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Soong Siew Hoong shared his vast experience with us on the much talked about topic.

About 30 people attended this interesting tea-talk and it ended with a happy note.

The overall objective is to help Malaysian SMEs to be more efficient, more productive and to be globally competitive in the Post AFTA Era.

Many thanks to our Central Committee Member, Ms. Sharon Lim for helping us to organize this tea-talk.
Hippo Family Exchange Programs
The package is specially arranged by an internationally known group, "HIPPO FAMILY CLUB, JAPAN" which organizes trips for Japanese to stay overseas with foster families for 7 - 8 days to really experience the local life-style and culture. Similarly, Japanese families receive Malaysians into their homes and acclimatise them to the culture.
The next home-stay program will be in Osaka from 9 - 17 November 2003, during the school holidays.

18th. Annual General Meeting
THE EIGHTEENTH ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING which was held on Saturday, 27 April 2003 at our office saw an active and participative group of members bend on not only seeking further information on what’s happening with PAAM, but for some, to see the new premise.

The year 2002 was one which saw new committee members trying effortlessly to garner support and strength from its members through tea-talks, AOTS sponsored programs and seminars. As the President, En. A Aziz Y Kamaruddin, stated in his opening address, activities can only be successful with the earnest participation of members who have PAAM at heart.

The AOTS has also expressed its confidence in PAAM in that with the signing of the collaboration agreement between the 2 parties, activities once coordinated the Kuala Lumpur Representative Office would now be handled by PAAM As Mr. Takeshi Ichikawa stated in his speech, this marks a change in the way AOTS will be looking at future programs including conducting activities which catered to the local SMES even without affiliation with any Japanese concerns.

The SBB-PAAM JCB Credit Card was also launched that day, with the committee members present being the first recipients of the cards. While this marks a new beginning towards making it possible for members to identify each other, PAAM expects to extend this concept towards getting members’ businesses involved such as discounts and priority services. This is hoped would result in better business opportunities for the members.

There was also substantial feedback and ideas from the members especially in the advertisement of PAAM’s activities. Members also made known that PAAM in encouraging participation via its slogan, ”GETTING YOU INVOLVED”, have also to ensure that programs are self-sustaining (without financial loss to the Associa-tion).

It was great to note that a number of those present volunteered to participate in the sub-committees. We take great pleasure in welcoming them and am confident that their participation would improve the standard of the activities planned for 2003/2004.
